For my Critical thinking research I chose to write about the
negative effects of hydraulic fracturing. I argued that it should be banned in
the US because is poses serious threats to the environments and health of the
people in the communities in which it occurs.

Cinematic Analysis of Do the Right Thing
For my 4th quarter cinematic analysis I chose to
write about the film Do the Right Thing.
This films theme of peace vs. conflict is prominent throughout the movie. Do the Right Thing is a film about
racial tension in a diverse neighborhood in Brooklyn during the 1989. In many
ways, director Spike Lee predicted the race riots that would take place two
years later in Brooklyn.

Thoreau vs Crane
For my Thoreau vs. Crane essay I demonstrated that Henry
David Thoreau author of Walden and
Henry Crane author of Maggie: a Girl of
the Streets convey similar tones towards themes of materialism and
possessions; however they convey contrasting attitudes towards the influence of
someone’s surroundings on their life (fate vs choice) and the theme of self
reliance. Although I the paper was enough to earn an A I turned it in Late and
therefore my letter grade dropped to a B. This was a valuable lesson to me that
Turning in work on time is as important if not more important than having a
good product. In the future in whatever work that I do I realize it will be
essential for me to meet my deadlines and the punishment for not doing this
could be much more severe than a drop in a letter grade.
Review of an Irish Carol
For my 2nd quarter play review I went to see an Irish Carol by Mathew Keenan at the
Keegan Theatre. It is a play about Capitalism vs relationships and that the
constant pursuit of wealth will cause you to alienate those around you.

Assignment/Activity
Title— Dubois VS Washington Year— 2013
Skill— A Portfolio
Category— Citical thinking
For my W.E.B Dubois vs. Booker T. Washington essay I had to
analyze two men’s ideas about the path that African Americans should take in
order to better their situation in a post civil war nation. This assignment was
difficult for me because I had to consider both sides objectively despite my
feeling that Dubois believed in the right path. I started the assignment
already thinking that I would support W.E.B Dubois because I felt that he took
a stronger stand against racial inequality. I knew however that I had to look
at the assignment objectively and forget any preconceived notions that I had.
Part of critical thinking is being able to considering different sides to an
argument and makes an educated decision.
This assignment taught me to thoroughly evaluate sources and
carefully craft my thesis. It is important that I include this because this
assignment changed my process of critical thinking.
