For my 4th quarter cinematic analysis I chose to
write about the film Do the Right Thing.
This films theme of peace vs. conflict is prominent throughout the movie. Do the Right Thing is a film about
racial tension in a diverse neighborhood in Brooklyn during the 1989. In many
ways, director Spike Lee predicted the race riots that would take place two
years later in Brooklyn.
I have received a ‘B’ on every cinematic analysis previous
to this one. It wasn’t due to a lack of content, but mostly because I had so
much to stay and the analysis would go on for longer than what is necessary.
Due to these analysis and other essays like them, I have developed proficiency
when analyzing the theme of a story. By the time I finished this assignment I
felt that my analytical skills had been honed to a point where I can feel
comfortable any time that I have to identify a theme and other elements of a
plot.
When I sat down to right this essay, I was determined to
earn an A. The theme of this film stood out and was relatively easy to pick
out. Again I had difficulty condensing the paper to an appropriate length.
Because of how prominent the theme was there where countless examples that I
wanted to include in my essay; however, I had to only choose examples where the
theme was most obviously displayed. Even then, I still had to cut some of my
plot summary.
This assignment demonstrates not only my ability to analyze
a work, but also to do so in a manner that allows for a concise and content
filled essay.
I was satisfied with the final product and I proved to
myself that I could write a well organized and to the point essay while still
expressing my ideas in a way that is to my liking
